First up is my beloved Mircoplane!

I use mine daily to grate hard cheeses like parmesan and of course it will zest the heck out of a lemon!

Salt pig, salt cellar, salt box, whatever you want to call it, it’s next on the list!

This bamboo salt cellar will look pretty on your counter, easily swivels open, and closes securely thanks to a little magnet. Of course I had to throw in my favorite salt to fill it with!

And the piece de resistance, Bariani olive oil!

A California olive oil made by an Italian family. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Don’t you just love the cool grey and blue pattern on the kitchen towel? I hope so because I’m giving that away also!

Good luck!!

P.S. One entry per person, pretty please!!

Update! This contest is now closed and the winner of the birthday loot is Tiffany!!

” Happy Birthday Melissa! I do not like to be the center of attention. My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years and at first, we would always go out to dinner somewhere with my friends and family for my birthday. Things have gotten busy over the last few years and we don’t go out any longer. I would have to say my best would have been about 5 years ago when we were all last together. I turned 35. That is the best part about aging. Being surrounded by the ones you love most in the world and being happy.”

Thank you again for sharing your birthday stories with me!

My best birthday ever was my 41st!

Years ago back in the Philippines, I had my palm read. This psychic told me that I will someday live in the US, marry a white guy and have 2 beautiful kids. Of course I rolled my eyes but loved the idea. Low and behold, I celebrated my 18th birthday in the US (1989), married a white guy and have 2 beautiful kids.

She told me one thing that was stuck in my mind for years. She also told me that I will not reach my 40th birthday! Horrible, huh? Well, I never forg0t that part. I embraced every year since then I got nervous when I turned 39 but got elated when I turned 40!

I turned 41 last December and I thought the “curse” was lifted. I am happily married to this wonderful “white guy” and have 2 beautiful children, and have never been in the best shape of my life.

I guess life do begin at 40 and yes I embrace getting old. I think every year is a blessing (-:

My very best birthday would have to be number 27. I celebrated with a ton of close friends at my favorite bar in San Francisco. It also doubled as a going away party because recently I packed up and moved down south to LA. Love your blog!

My absolute favorite birthday was my 40th. Three of my best friends and I went to New York for 5 days. My birthday is the beginning of December so we got there the day the Rockefeller christmas tree was ebing lit so that was awesome. Everything about the trip was perfect:)Thank you for doing this giveaway:)

Mine was age 36. We had dinner at The Kitchen restaurant here in Sacramento. Exquisite meal and phenomenal service.

Gift wise—when I received my Kitchenaid mixer…I use it so much now, I can’t imagine cooking without it!

  5. Jennifer says:

When I turned 30 I told my husband I wanted thirty gifts. I was kind enough to include in the count some things he only sort of gave me. The cuddly baby boy I carried around in a front pack, some garden projects which my parents did and an evening with my sisters come to mind. A few that were very directly from him that haven’t been broken or lost in the following nine years are the brightly colored Crate and Barrel mixing bowls and my lovely wooden recipe box. I use them both often and they are a constant reminder of my thoughful husband and our life together.

Happy Birthday Melissa! Hope it is your best year yet.

Hi. Hee hee. Mine was my 30th. You were there and we had a funny band that sang me silly songs about how it’s my birthday and how I am the type of girl that says its not just my birthday it is other people’s birthday too. The singer also gave me a used cassette recorder that doesn’t work. I remember all of the children holding hands and dancing in a cirlce. My fondest birthday memory by far.

Happy Birthday, Melissa! …and I’m so excited about your first giveaway, especially the olive oil! :) I think mine would have to be my birthday last year, where some friends and I found this great spot high up in the hills that surround the city. We sat up there all night, and although I’ve had plenty more exciting birthdays, I think that was my favorite. Good luck to everyone that enters!

Mine was my 35th because my husband took me to Ireland

    Definitely my 21!
Corey took me on a trip to San Francisco. We had amazing food and adventures and best of all we left engaged! He proposed on top of Twin Peaks, overlooking the city… A day I will never forget. :)

My favorite birthday has probably been my 13th. Mt parent threw me a surprise party with all my family and friends. I had a greta time with my closest friends and family. My mom made it even better by cooking all my favorite food. Hot wings, cupcakes, noodles all my favorite. It was the bets birthday ever !

  12. Nancy Howell says:

My best birthday was the last one I had. I didn’t have to do a thing. I had BBQ Ribs, an Ice Cream cake and some of my closet friends. What more could I ask for!

Thank you for offering such a lovely and generous giveaway. My favorite birthday was the year my uncle gave me a horse. She really belonged to him as he was the one who cared for her, but she was mine whenever I would visit. I was only eight years old at the time, so you can imagine how exciting that was. I hope your birthday is just as magical. :)

  14. Stacey says:

You know when I turned 30 I truly embraced it. I really think it was my peak age. I felt great and actually felt younger than ever. I went to some clubs in San Francisco with some girlfriends that played that “retro” 80′s music. It was a fun night. I will soon be turning 38, but I still feel young at heart and no one ever thinks I am old as I am.

Thank you for your blog! It’s an inspiration. Happy Birthday! ;)

Happy almost birthday, Melissa. Are family excluded from this contest ;) ?… Fun idea.

OK, so my best birthday, was I think, last year. My immediate family (husband and daughter) have not beenq renowned for their thoughtfulness when it came to my birthdays… There were several that were forgotten or overlooked, but last year, our daughter got the picture. Without me having the slightest clue of what was going on, she planned a party for me. She invited all my friends and family and asked them to bring an Ettore’s style salad or side dish and she had my favorite cake from Freeport Bakery picked up (Seville Marnier) and took me out for a massage while everything was being set up.

She brought me home to a house full of my favorite people and the most amazing food ever! I was completely surprised and thoroughly blessed. What a lovely birthday…

I hope yours is your best ever and I hope you thoroughly enjoy your dinner.

  17. My favorite birthday would have to be my 21st. Being the youngest out of all of my friends definitely had its downside. For once I wasn’t the DD or left at home! It was a whole weekend celebration. At 12:01am I got to celebrate with my twin sister and then the rest may or may not have been sort of a blur. Haha. I hope you have an amazing birthday!

    Happy Birthday!

That’s my favorite olive oil :)

My best birthday was 31. My 30th was spent in Disneyland – and it was a trip full of drama and sickness – disappointing, to say the least. The next year, though, was simple and small and free from the plague.

Happy birthday, Melissa! I turn 34 this year too. Every year I love my birthday, and think that one is the best. But if I had to choose it would probably be my 30th. My friends, being fabulous and knowing my love for ice cream, threw me my first ever surprise party and each guest brought their favorite ice cream. We all had a great little ice cream social, and I was left with a ton of yummy ice cream in my freezer!

I am loving all of your birthday memories! Thank you so much for sharing them, and of course family can enter!! I really have the sweetest readers. :)
